NATURAL DYEING

I really enjoy foraging though the abundant tropical flora Barbados has to offer. Gathering leaves, seasonal fruits and seeds to produce beautiful earthy shades of cotton.

ORGANIC INGREDIENTS

I use only local, organic materials to dye my cotton and so naturally the colours I can achieve vary in shade.

Teak leaves, when freshly picked, can give a soft beige colour to the cotton, whereas, when the leaves are left to dry, the cotton can take on a much deeper brown.

This is what makes every piece unique and beautiful in its own way and keeps me experimenting!

ECO FRIENDLY

I choose not to use toxic metal mordants to fix dye to fibres in my dyeing process.

Instead I use materials that are naturally rich in tannins.

Over time, the colour of the cotton lightens through various shades naturally and can either be enjoyed as it changes or I can refurbish your treasured piece whenever you like.

DESIGNS

My Zemi necklace, for example, is made with Sea Island Cotton, grown and hand-picked in the Caribbean.

The cotton has been dyed using Sargassum Seaweed, collected from my local beach, to produce a soft brown colour.
